Advertising Design Contest
Use paper and pen/pencil. Write your contestant number in the upper right hand corner. Write your answers clearly/legibly. If we cannot read it, we will mark your answer incorrect.
No devices of any kind can be used.
No break or communication of any kind during exam.
Cheating will disqualify you from entire contest.
There are 10 questions. Each is worth 10 points for a total of 100 points. Partial credit will be given for partially correct answers. We are looking to give credit!
Total contest points are 1,000. This exam is worth 10% of total score. Great designs on Saturday are not enough to win alone.
You can leave for lunch once complete.
#1 List as many facts about RGB and CMYK color modes as you can. 5 total facts will get you full credit.
For example, spelling out acronyms, how many are there, what are they used for, what happens if you use wrong mode, etc
#2 Explain the difference between leading and kerning/tracking. Show an example of both.

#3 Sketch a clear drawing showing safe zone, trim and bleed for a print project. What will happen if there is no bleed?
Label your sketch clearly to show you understand the role of all three.
#4 Which Adobe software program is better for logo design and why?
Name the program and be specific.
#5 What is DPI? Why is it important? What is generally accepted as correct DPI for print and for digital applications?

#6 What are 3 characteristics of a great logo? Explain why they are important.

#7 What happens to an image file that you scale up? Why? How can you fix it or plan ahead for it?
